Adherence to plan (AtP): what it is and how to calculate it
Adherence to plan (AtP) shows how reliably a team delivers what it planned. In the Project Health Check it is defined as:
AtP = tasks due in the last 30 days that were completed on or before their due date ÷ all tasks due in the last 30 days
Example
Ten tasks were due in the last 30 days. Seven were completed on time, two late, one is still open. AtP = 7 ÷ 10 = 70%.
Good to know
- Tasks without a due date are not counted. The tool shows how many there are.
- If the export has no completed dates, AtP counts completed tasks only (“status only”) and says so.
- AtP is most useful as a trend. Compare it month by month with exports from different dates.
How to improve AtP
- Re-plan overdue tasks openly instead of leaving old due dates in place.
- Break large tasks into smaller ones with their own due dates.
- Make sure every task due soon has an owner.
